Idalina Tá Me Chamando
É de manhã, Idalina tá me chamando
Idalina tem o costume
De chamar e vai andando

É de manhã, Idalina tá me chamando

O Idalina meu amor Idalina tá me esperando

É de manhã, Idalina tá me chamando

Idalina tem o costume Danado de falar de homem

É de manhã, Idalina tá me chamando

Idalina meu amor Idalina tá me esperando

É de manhã, Idalina tá me chamando

Idalina tem o costume
Danado de falar de homem

É de manhã, Idalina tá me chamando

Oi Russ,

You can find this song on the Mestre Suassuna album Cordao de Ouro ( Vol I if I'm not mistaken )

I thought it might help you track it down a little easier. : )

so...a sorta related, sorta unrelated question.
along the lines of using the appropriate songs in rodas....if you're leading the singing, and your a woman...is it just plain silly to sing a song like " Idalina Tá Me Chamando", "leva morena me leva" or something like "dona maria como vai voce"?
I like the melodies of those songs...but being that i'm a woman...would i just be seen as a stupid gringo?

Well I guess that depends on which team you play for? : P

For some like "leva morena me leva" The lyrics are usually song to a woman who you (as a man) are interested in. So I would say that that one is probably one you don't want to sing....

But Dona Maria como vai voce? is just asking someone how they are doing? e de manha Idalina ta e chamando... is just saying that this girl calls you in the morning to walk around... sounds innocent enough to me.

It's really all in the context of where you sing the song and what additional lyrics are added in on the improvise part.

You have to be careful what you're singing, but that has nothing ( IMHO ) to do with what sex you are, but more with the context of when, where, what, and to who ( and sometimes even how ) you are singing the song in question.

Make any sense at all?

P.S. Although if you do start singing leva morena me leva, you might suddenly have some attention from the visiting Mestras.... What ever floats your boat...

i mean, i could have answered that question myself...i just really like the idalina song. well, i mean, aesthetically i like the sound...before i knew what it meant. not that i didn't already know it was something to do with a woman.
bah.
i need more women friendly songs. all i know is lagao do abaete and ginga menina.

woman friendly? or... woman friendly?

Sorry couldn't resist... Seriously, that's one of the tough things for woman in capoeira. The songs ( at least the more traditional ones ) were all sung by men, so there really aren't that many "good" songs for woman.

Do you know deixa menina jogar? It's again, sung from a man's point of view, but at least it recognizes that woman have a place in the roda....

There's also a new one on the new Carolina Soares album ( vol II) that's something like Mulher na roda e para jogar

hmm.... You could just sing leva moreno me leva... but the guys might not want to sing that part...

hmmm...... I wish I had better answer for you than " Hey it's a chavanistic sport from a macho latino culture " but on the bright side... it's slowly changing. You might want to start a seperate thread on this subject. I'd be interested in seeing what the other woman on the forums have to say... it's

There is some great songs out there, you just have to look for them and be creative with the ones that you already have. : )
